Karrie's Style

THE BEAUTIFUL HUMAN BOND

At the heart of my style is to draw upon and honestly reflect genuine emotions and personal connections.  This is what I find inspiring and it drives and fuels my creativity.  I love to capture the whole range of emotions and moments - from happiness, joy and craziness (!) to tenderness, deep love and quiet contemplation. In my sessions, "anything goes". I believe this is the most accurate way of portraying of real life.

TELLING YOUR STORY WITH AUTHENTICITY

I have found that the best way to achieve authenticity in my families' imagery is to ensure that the session flows as naturally as possible. This means that although I provide a lot of guidance throughout the session, I try to encourage my families to use this opportunity to just be with each other and to cherish each other's company in an unscripted manner. I avoid choreographing stiff poses and I actively encourage you not to look at the camera!

If you had to stick a label on my style, I'd say it is a combination of both documentary photography and candid portraiture.  However, I don't like to be confined to genres and I prefer just to see where the moment takes me.

TURNING YOUR MOMENTS INTO ART

I am an artist at heart and my style reflects this. I actually love editing almost as much as taking the photos!  The purpose of my editing is to enhance an image so that it powerfully communicates how the moment felt. I do this through use of colour, contrast, sharpening and grain.
